Rick D Hayes Assistance Fund

Rick is a retired Spokane Police Officer. He was logging for a friend, which he has done most of his adult life, when he was injured. He had dropped a tree and was limbing it, when an adjacent tree top fell and struck him in the head. He suffered a C-2 burst fracture in is neck. The miracle was, he survived the injury. He was airlifted to Spokane and then to Seattle. He underwent surgery and has returned to Spokane St. Lukes rehab. He was initially paralyzed from the neck down. He has been working hard to rehab and is doing well. He has movement on his right side and is working to gain muscle control. While medical insurance is covering most of the accident, he and Anita, who have been together since childhood, need help rebuilding their home to adapt to a wheel chair. They live in a rural area of North Spokane County. Other officers are donating time to do the work, but the older home is expensive to rebuild. The first project has been the bathroom, converting it to an ADA shower. Materials will run upwards of $5000 to adapt it. They do not have the money for this expense. Further improvements need to be made to doorways, entrance, driveway and access to the house. Rick was always a person to help anyone who needed it and now he is in need. Please help this grateful family. It will be a long road to recover. Rick and I worked together as officers. We worked together most of our careers. Myself and the other officers helping out, thank you for any help.
